Intermediate Lions of Cameroon defender Solomon Charles Banga Bidjeme II has been handed a maiden call to the senior national selection of Cameroon.
The 25-year old sweeper who skippered Cameroon during the CHAN 2020 competition has finally caught the attention of Coach António Conceição Da Silva Oliviera replacing defenders Jean Charles Castelleto and Harold Moukoudi likely to miss Cameroon’s games later this month.
Banga started all six of Cameroon’s games at the 2020 African nations championship early this year, scoring twice and made the team of the group stages of the competition.
The defender has developed from the boy that captained and controlled the Colombe defense three years ago to a proper defender these days at Cotonsport of Garoua.
He has featured in six of the Club’s seven games in the CAF Confederation cup this season missing just one game due to suspension.
His inclusion takes the number of locally picked for the games against Cape Verde Island and Rwanda to four. Goalkeeper Haschou Kerrido, midfielder Meyapia Nfongain and forwards Ako Assomo and Hampo Man Ykre complete the quartet.
Cameroon’s camp without French based players and a number of Belgian players open on Monday in Yaoundé-Cameroon with the team to face Cape Verde away in Pria on March 26th and Rwanda four days later at Japoma-Cameroon.
