The Bamenda II council will on Friday May 22, 2020 launch a sports competition bringing together youths of the Bamenda II municipality in particular and Bamenda in general.
The sports competition to run from Friday May 22nd to Sunday May 24th will see athletes compete in three different discipline. They will compete in swimming, tennis and a cross country race.
For swimming, it will be divided into three categories. That is; Junior (6-12 years), Cadet (12-18 years) and the Senior category (18 and above).
For tennis (lawn), it will be in four categories. 12-20 years, 20-35 years, 35-50 years and 50 years and above.
Meanwhile the cross country race to take place on Sunday morning shall see athletes divided into the junior, senior and veteran categories. Prior to the race, a compulsory medical test will be organized on Saturday May 23.
For the race course, athletes will run from the commercial avenue grand stand, passing through T-Junction to Ayaba street, ngeng junction to finance junction to the monument at upstation and then back to the commercial avenue grand stand passing through Sonac street.
Tennis and swimming will unfold on eliminatory basis with finals to take place at the close of the event on Sunday May 24, 2020.
At the close of the competition, individual as well as collective prizes will be awarded to deserving athletes.
The competition has been placed under the patronage of Chenwi Peter, mayor of Bamenda II council, and it will unfold under the theme “Youths and elites, uniting under a common vision”.
