Ulrich Pange Lobe was the hero for Bamboutos of Mbouda in their 1-0 win over league leaders PWD of Bamenda at the Limbe Middle Farms Stadium.
PWD of Bamenda failed to consolidate their place at the top of the table after losing to Bamboutos of Mbouda in a highly contested “Grassfield” derby.
Pange Lobe came into the contest on the back of some under par performances by his standards. He was played through at the 24th minute by Rene Ndi and he showed pace and trickery against Basile Yamkam before unleashing a left foot shot that beat Cedric Lionel Damlageu in goal for the Abakwa Boys.
PWD are now second, with 44 points, same like Colombe in third position but have a goal more. They both trail Cotonsport by a single point, while Feutcheu FC are breathing down their necks with 41 points.
Coach David Pagou’s men will remain in Limbe as they take on Union of Douala on Wednesday in a bid to reclaim top spot, while hoping that Cotonsport slips up.
PWD of Bamenda were found really wanting in the offensive compartment, as Leon Beyomo and Nchindo John Bosco did little to worry the Bamboutos backline.
Bamboutos of Mbouda had a commanding display in midfield as Mark Ojong reminded everyone why he was widely considered by many as the best in his position in the country’s top flight.
Despite the creative brains of Pange Lobe and Rene Ndi, Arouna Dang looked far from his best and failed to be a reliable target man which explains the narrow score line for Laurent Djam’s team.
The Mangwa Boys did not only secure the three vital points that have moved them to the fifth spot on the log with 40 points but also walked away with bragging rights in the “Grassfield” derby.
