26-year-old Cameroon playmaker Axel Ngando Elessa was on target for Auxerre in their 3-1 win over Niort in match-day 27 of the French second tier.
He opened the scoring at the 44th minute.
It was his fifth goal of the season in 16 league appearances.
Ngando made way at the 68th minute as Remy Dugimont was brought on by Jean-Marc Furlan.
Eddy Sylvestre doubled Auxerre’s lead in the first minute of the first half.
Carlens Arcus scored an unfortunate own-goal to give the visitors a glimmer of hope but Aly Ndom made sure of the three points for Auxerre with a third goal at the 78th.
The win leaves Auxerre 10th on the log with 34 points, 20 less than league leaders Lorient.
Niort of Cameroon’s Guy Marcelin Kilama and Darline Zidane Ngameni are 18th on the league table with 25 points.
Kilama played the entire game for Niort in central defense, while Ngameni was an unused substitute.
