Cameroonian trio Estelle Johnson (Sky Blue FC), Marie Aurelle Awona (Stade Reims), and Nchout Njoya Ajara (Valerenga) are in the women team of the year 2020 under CAF. The women team of the year was released by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, IFFHS.
It was been an outstanding year 2020 for the 27-year-old Ajara on a personal level and with her club Valerenga. At club level, Ajara helped Valerenga to a second successive Norwegian Toppserien title. In the process, she won the highest goal scorer award with 10 goals.
In 18 matches played in the championship, Ajara’s Valerenga got 38 points with 11 wins, 5 draws, and 2 defeats. In all competitions this year, Nchout Njoya Ajara succeeded in scoring 14 goals.
She also helped her side win the Norwegian Cup against LSK Kvinner. Ajara put her side ahead deep into extra time before her colleague Markussen made sure there was no coming back for LSK Kvinner with a second goal at the 105 minutes.
32-year-old Estelle Johnson has had a year to remember with her club Sky Blue FC. The 1.69 m defender who joined Sky Blue FC in 2019 has played 9 matches this year for her club. She was in the side that defeated Chicago red Stars 3 goals to 1. In the (National Women’s Super League (NWSL) Challenge Cup 2020, Estelle Johnson has featured in 5 games, all starts.
At the international level, Johnson has had some 5 appearances. She was part of Cameroon’s squad at the 2019 FIFA World Cup and played all four games of her side. She was also part of the Indomitable Lionesses’ defeat to England at the Round of 16 at the same World Cup.
Marie Awona is also having a brilliant season with her Club Reims in France. For 2020/2021 Division 1 Feminine, 27-year0old Marie Awona has played 6 matches thus far. She was also part of the 2019 FIFA World Cup and made her World cup debut for Cameroon in a 2-1 victory against Switzerland.
For the goalkeepers, we have Chiamaka Nndozie (Nigeria/Paris FC). Defenders include Chidinma Okeke (Nigeria/FC Robo), Tiisetso Makhubela (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns), Estelle Johnson (Cameroon/Sky Blue FC), and Marie Aurelle Awona (Cameroon/Stade Reims).
The midfielders include Ngozi Okobi (Nigeria/Eskilstuna), Ange N’guessan (Ivory Coast/FC Barcelona), and Thembi Kgatlana (South Africa/Benfica).
Forwards: Nchout Njoya Ajara (Cameroon/Valerenga), Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria/FC Barcelona), and Temwa Chawinga (Malawi/Wuhan).
