Former Montpellier left-back Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo is a subject of transfer interest from newly-promoted French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre.
According to Allezleslion.net, the French top-flight club are interested in signing the experienced Cameroon star as they look to find a good option in that part of their defense.
The 30_year_old left back Joined the club in January 2018, from Canadian side CF Montréal, and made over 60 appearances for the club before going out on loan to FC Krasnodar.
He returned Montpellier this season after a lengthy spell our through injury and finished the season in a very strong manner.
The former Cotonsport man played 13 games in the just ended French ligue 1 campaign, scoring one goal, as Montpellier finished the season on the 13 position, with 43 points.
The versatile defender, capable of playing as a left-back, left-midfielder and even as a left-winger on the odd occassions could be a good catch for his French suitors.
A solid option?
Signing Oyongo seems to make a lot of sense to Auxerre as they would be signing a player who could offer cover in a variety of positions.
If the Cameroonian indeed moves to Auxerre, he extend his stay in France and he has such versatility that offers coach Jean-Marc Fulan a great cushion going into next season and it remains to be seen as to how the French tactician uses him if he is recruited.
Oyongo, winner of AFCON 2017 and silver medalist in 2021 can also offer his international experience of over ten years, 51 caps and two goals for Cameroon at any club he joins.
Auxerre open their season this Saturday against Lille of Carlos Baleba who has been a revelation during his club’s pre-season matches.
