South Africa’s Kevin Anderson failed to make it to the second round of the Australian Open courtesy brilliant tennis fr Matteo Berrettini of Italy on Tuesday.
The Italian player matched the former US Open might for might and skill for skill winning the 81st ranked player.
Berrettini saved eight set points to steal the opening set 7-6(9) against Kevin Anderson.
In the second set, the 34-year-old South African couldn’t break the 24-year-old as he secured the second set 7-5 to hold a two sets to love lead on.
The third set produced the same momentum as the previous sets, but the Italian’s decisive break in game nine yo serve out the match.
Kevin served 18 aces in the match, but could not find a way past the talented young Italian.
The South African tennis veteran’s losing streak against a top-10 player at the Australian Open continues.
