Cameroonian defender Jérôme Junior Onguéné has picked up a fifth Austrian Bundesliga title with Red Bull Salzburg. It is the ninth consecutive title for the Austrian club.
The 24-year-old former FC Sochaux defender has helped his side to a five nil victory over visiting Austria Vienna on Sunday in a title playoff game.
Goals by Noah Okafor, Karim Adeyemi, Luka Sucic, Brenden Aaronson and Mohamed Camara, the latter two from the penalty spot did the job on the side currently ranked 4th in the league.
The victory meant RB Salzburg of coach German coach Matthias Jaissle open a 14 points gap between them and second placed SK Stum Graz with four games of the playoffs phase of the season left.
It is Salzburg’s 15th league title and, as the ninth in a row, it joins a list shared only with Ludogorets of Bulgaria and Bayern Munich.
The Mbalmayo native has featured in 18 games for the Club this season, scoring twice.
It is the ninth trophy in the career of the former French Under-19 international.
In addition to the five titles, he is four time winner of the Austrian Cup, and 2016 winnner of the UEFA Under-19 championship with France.
He was a part of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon team that won bronze at the AFCON 2021.
The former Stuttgart defender has six caps for the team his father, Jean Manga Onguene also starred in.
