Astres of Douala of coach Anicet Mbarga Foe have picked up their first win of the 2020-2021 Cameroon Elite One championship season.
The boys of coach Anicet Mbarga Foe recorded an impressive comeback win by 2-1 in this Saturday’s match-day five fixture at the Japoma Annex Stadium.
Astres had to dig deep to get the long-awaited victory after Mani Bertrand connected with Nkembe Enow to give Colombe of Dja a well deserved lead.
Leon Boyomo of Astres of Douala had two good chances later in the first segment but a combination of good goalkeeper and good defending denied him a goal.
The game remained 0-1 in favor of visiting Colombe till the break.
Astres of Douala returned for the second segment looking more daring with Api Eric Enjenwi and mates galloping upfront with waves of attacking moves that were stopped.
It was until the 48th minute that Astres won a free kick 40 meters away from the Colombe goal. Intermediate Lions forward Valentin Beo Bato stepped up and placed the ball directly into the net of goalkeeper Armand Kuipot to make 1-1.
Last season’s Elite One lead scorer Leon Boyomo completed the comeback in the 77th minute when he stepped up and converted a penalty for his side’s second of the day and his first of the season.
Though both sides had chances in the final third, the forwards failed to score.
The game ended on a 2-1 score for the Brazilians of Bepanda who back home their first three points of the season.
Astres of Douala count four points in four outings while Colombe of Dja are still running after their first win of the season.
