Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, direct succession to the 17th century founder of the Ashanti Empire, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, Grand Patron of the Grand Lodge of Ghana and the Sword Bearer of the United Grand Lodge of England, Life Patron of Asante Kotoko Sporting club has laid a one year temporal non recruitment ban on the club.
The decision was communicated on Tuesday 9th June, 2020, by the Chief of Staff of Manhyia Palace, Kofi Badu.
In a tweet by Kofi Badu it reads “Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has directed that the club should not recruit any new player for at least a season.”
This comes at a time football activities are on recess due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To back up the decision for the temporal ban, Badu explains that it is to stop the player attrition rate and enable the current players of the team to attain a certain level of development.
“The reason is to temporarily stop the player attrition rate and enable us to work with the current crop of players, who the Asantehene thinks have the quality to push the club to the top.”
According to the Life Patron, the club has players who can take the club to the next level.
Asante Kotoko Sporting Club is a professional football club from Kumasi, Ashanti Region in Ghana West Africa. The club has been champions of the Ghana Premier League a record of 24 times, have won the CAF Champions League twice and were adjudged the African club of the century by International Football Federation of History and Statistics.
