Cotonsport of Garoua have ended their 2020-2021 CAF Confederation cup group stage campaign with a 2-1 defeat away at RS Berkane on Wednesday.
The Cameroonian outfit were outplayed and outscored in Berkane as the CAF Confederation cup holders ended a dissatisfactory campaign on a high thanks to goals from Namsaoui and Laachir in the ninth and 52nd minutes respectively.
Lambert Ngueme Areina scored his fifth goal in this season’s competition to make it 2-1, unfortunately for Cotonsport their lead scorer’s 87th minute goal was too little too late.
The defeat means the Cotonites complete the group stages with nine points, three points adrift of group winners JS Kabylie of Algeria but advance to the quarter-finals for the first time in seven years.
The quarter-finals draw will be conducted on Friday, April 30 with the 2003 CAF Confederation cup finalist from Garoua likely face Raja Casablanca, Enyimba or AS Jaraaf in a two legged quarterfinals clash in May 2021.
Cotonsport will play their first quarterfinal at home while the reverse fixture will be on the road.
22-year old Lambert Ngueme Araina is unstoppable this season. He counts 12 goals and three assists in 16 games this season.
