Cameroon Elite One title favorites Cotonsport of Garoua have picked up their third win of the 2020-2021 season.
The Cotonites punished visiting Canon Yaounde by 2-0 in a delayed match-day six fixture this Wednesday at the Djoumessi complex in Garoua.
A 35th minute strike from Lambert Ngueme Araina plus a second half penalty goal from the lethal finisher was enough to stop Canon’s three games winning run and settle the much talked about fixture for the Cotonites.
Kick off of the game was delayed for an hour after stadium officials refused to make available the Roumde Adja Annex Stadium for the game sparking doubts on whether or not the game was to take place.
But in a quick-fix major the Cameroon Football Federation switched the venue to the Djoumessi complex and finally had the fixture observed.
22-year old Lambert Ngueme Araina has scored seven goals and provided two assists in the championship this season and counts 11 goals plus three assists in 14 matches in all competitions this season.
Cotonsport of Garoua with 9 points move up to the second spot, three points off leaders Panthere Nde though the former have two games in hand.
Cotonsport are on standby this weekend as they prepare their crunch CAF Confederation cup clash against JS Kabylie on Wednesday while Canon face TKC in the legendary derby this weekend.
