Armée Patriotic Rwandaise FC (Rwanda Patriotic front) have won their record 18th Premier League title after the executive committee of the Rwanda Football federation (FERWAFA) decided to put an end to the 2019/2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Prior to this decision, the Kigali based outfit, APR FC, were top of the Rwanda Premier League table with 57 points after 23 matches and were seven points ahead of arch rivals, Rayon Sports with seven games to go.

ARP FC are the leading football club in Rwanda although they have failed to translate their domestic dominance at the CAF champions League were they have featured 10 times.

Heroes FC and Gicumbi FC who tailed the league have been relegated to second division for the 2020/2021 season. The men’s second division playoffs to determine which two teams earn promotion to the Rwanda Premier League next season will be staged after continues monitoring of the global health crises.

The women’s first and second division also falls among FERWAFA’s competitions that have been suspended and will resume when the government eases down lockdown on sporting activities while the youth competitions in all age categories are postponed.
