PWD’s charismatic president Pascal Abunde, whose philosophy has likened him to an Apostle due to his believe in the slogan ‘make PWD great again,’ perhaps inspired by Ronald Reagan’s successful 1980 campaign slogan: ‘let’s make America great again,’ has asked fans to put in even more during this new page of the clubs’ history.
President Pascal Abunde has witnessed the highs and lows of the ‘beautiful game’ since his takeover of PWD some five years back, and the fans have been a huge part in the club’s newest and most relevant distinction.
Talking to this reporter in an exclusive, president Pascal Abunde aired: ‘no adjectives can appreciate the fans. It’s been 58 years we’ve been waiting for this trophy!
‘All our stories prior to this success (winning the Elite One Championship, writer’s addition) – ended at the Cameroon cup in 1979, more than 41 years ago.
‘We have achieved a big milestone irrespective of the circumstances, I will want to appreciate the great role they all played.’
PWD of Bamenda was right up there in the just ended season as per fans appearances on match days, and it helped the players a great deal.
‘I want them to remain steadfast in supporting the team. We cannot have the type of celebrations we would have wanted to have as a result of the pandemic but in each of our small corners, we do minimal celebrations and try to inscribe this moment as an unforgettable one.’
‘To go up is difficult but to stay there is the most challenging,’ President Pascal said with testaments of this adage being the likes of New Stars and Cosmos, former Elite One clubs that crashed after visiting the continental scene.
‘We have to show character, respect and remain United. We have to keep the team at this level, so they can challenge for titles year in and out. I will like to thank the fans, Journalists and every other sympathizer to this club,’ the Epistle reads.
President Abunde Pascal equally emphasised on the need to start early preparations so as to avoid the twisted fate of clubs that represented the country on the continent and went on to deep to inferior divisions the following year.
