Anye Fru Derick has praised Gabriel Hamann for improving Cotonsport’s defence and giving other players a chance since taking over as the club’s manager nine weeks ago.
Coach Hamann has enjoyed a fairytale start to his time in charge, leading Coton on a 14-game unbeaten run in the MTN Elite One championship and close to securing a title playoffs spot.
Though the club is yet to communicate, it seems the results culminated in being given the job on a permanent basis alongside Francois Ngoumou as technical adviser and Adamou Saliou as technical director.
These three changes have beefed up the staff retained from the previous regime and Anye is positive the new team is moving to the right direction.
‘We have improved a lot defensively. We are conceding fewer goals than last season,’ he told kick442.com before going on to mention the compactment of the team that has changed the narrative of the Coton side that went on a run of eleven games without a win under previous manager – Souleymanou Aboubakar.
‘At the start we were letting in too many goals, but we are defending better now and from there the team is improving.
‘Of course, when you defend well, the team is bound to improve. We have some great players up front and we just have to keep on improving’
He also shows a lot of confidence in the younger players, which is important for us and so he’s a really great manager.’
Since the arrival of coach Gabriel Hamann, time and time again, Anye has spared Coton’s blushes, with the clean sheets against the likes of PWD,YAFOOT,Eding, Dragon, Bamboutos FC, New Stars and Fovu largely thanks to his goalkeeping heroics.
Now, data has revealed just how influential and important he has been for the new Cotonsport team under Hamann, this term looks to be a promising one for the keeper who won the league last season.
Cotonsport’s latest win takes Coton up to the second spot in the league with 36 points, four points off leaders Eding Sport with three games of the championship left. A massive improvement from the last but one position in April when Anye was a spectator.
Anye Derick’s latest clean sheet for Cotonsport is his 11th in the last 14 games weeks after he became the first Coton goalkeeper to keep five consecutive clean sheets since Simon Omossola last did in Coton’s title winning 2018 season.
The ex- Union and Panthere has been beaten thrice in his last 1018 minutes of football for the Cotonites.
