The current boss of the indomitable lions, Antonio Conceicao has met with former indomitable international center back Nicolas Nkoulou over his return to the lion’s Den.
Friday’s meeting at the Italian city of Turin where the defender is based these days is speculated to be aimed at bringing back the Torino FC man who defected his national selection since February 2017.
Born on the 27th March 1990, Nicolas Alexis Julio Nkoulou Doubena started his football career in Kadji Sports Academy before switching to France where his European adventure began. He has played 70matches for country, scored 2 goals. He was a part of the Cameroon team that won the AFCON title in 2017.
After the surprised success in that tournament, the Torino center back decided to quit international football. A decision many Cameroonians have not accepted especially looking at the club performances of the 30-year-old.
Before Conceicao’s contact for Nkoulou’s return, Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi had urged him in Yaounde in December 2019 to end his 2years break and return to the national team.
Contacts have also been made with Cameroon-Liverpool’s defender Joel Matip towards his return to the team since his exit in 2015.
Both players have been regular and outstanding for their clubs this season.
Torino is currently 12 on Serie A league with 27 points while Matip’s Liverpool are Premier League 2019-2020 champions in waiting.
A possible return of Nicolas Nkoulou, Joel Matip to the lion’s den could give the country the best squad in hosting the 2021 AFCON considering their experience in both country and international football and hopes to the fans in raising up the trophy.
