The multiple weeks of speculation about the future of sensational Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana Onana may soon over as North London club Chelsea are seemingly paving way for the arrival of the Ajax ‘safe hands’.
Reports from Spanish media Mundo Deportivo have it that Frank Lampard has reportedly opened the doors of the Stamford Bridge for the departure of Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Two years into his career at Chelsea,Kepa has failed to impressed.
The same source says Spanish La Liga side Valencia are willing to bring the 25-year-old Kepa to the Mestalla and have been in contact with Chelsea.
Rumors about Kepa’s departure, reports of Ajax courting Sporting’s 21-year-old Portuguese goalkeeper Luís Manuel Arantes Maximiano and officials of Ajax admitting Andre could leave at the right price only makes it more interesting.
Since arriving Amsterdam, Andre has grown into one of the best goalkeepers in the world now aged 24 and last summer he had a gentleman agreement with Ajax officials to spend a season at the Cryuiff Arena before finding a new challenge.
The Cameroonian joined the Dutch side in 2015 from Barcelona B and became Ajax’s undisputable first choice keeper in the 2016/2017 season. Since then he has made 122 appearances in all competitions.
This season, he has been involved in 39 games, conceded 37 goals in all competitions with 15 clean sheets from 3500 minutes of football.
Th Ngol Ngok native has contributed in winning one dutch league title and a dutch domestic cup for the Ajax faithfuls.
Multiple European giants have been enticed by these impressive statistics and his performances. Amongst the interested clubs is his ex club Barcelona, accompanied by PSG,Tottenham, Manchester United, AC Milan who are all linked with the Chelsea target.
Another factor that could work for Chelsea is the close relationship between newly acquired Chelsea midfielder Hakim Ziyech and Andre Onana.
Hakim is Onana’s very good friend, and this summer he left the Cryuiff Arena for Stamford Bridge.
The fact that Ajax and Chelsea have done good business this summer makes the relationship warm and doors open for more.
These details put Chelsea on the driving seat in the race to sign the Cameroonian keeper.
