Nigerian wrestler, Blessing Onyebuchi has just won gold in the women’s +70kg category at 2019 ANOC World Beach Games.
Onyebuchi, who was a silver medalist at the Commonwealth games, couldn’t win a medal at the senior world wrestling championship at Budapest a couple of months ago.
The African Games champion has now given Nigeria her first gold medal in the history of the world beach games.
Her victory comes a day after her compatriot, Mercy Genesis won a silver medal at the ongoing inaugural ANOC World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar, after losing to Brazil’s Kamila Barbosa Vito Da Silva in the final of the -50kg class.
Blessing and Mercy are the two wrestlers for Nigeria to take part in beach wrestling, which is similar to the traditional Kokuwa wrestling.
The World Beach Games is it’s inaugural edition and it is organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).
The World Beach Games Qatar 2019 from October 12-16 with some of the world’s best athletes from all five continents will be competing for 350 medals in across 13 sports.
