Remo Stars FC forward, Andy Okpe is optimistic that the Sky Blue Stars can qualify for either the CAF Champions League or the Confederation Cup at the end of the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
Remo Stars on Sunday defeated Kwara United 3-0 in Ikenne to end the first stanza of the season in the fourth position with 32 points from 19 games, two points behind Enugu Rangers, nine points behind second-placed Plateau United, and ten points behind league leaders, Rivers United.
“It hasn’t been a bad season so far for the team. We started well but unfortunately, we found ourselves in this position. The season is going well. We have a great coach and a great team. One can’t judge a book by its cover. When we started, fans were surprised that we achieved an eleven-game unbeaten run because we are just coming back to the league from the second-tier NNL. We were underestimated but we are coming back to our best form from the next stanza.
“My target for the team this season is if we can’t win the league but I am hoping we will win the league, continental qualification is the target.” Andy Okpe told pressmen after his side’s win over Kwara United.
The former Inter Allies of Ghana forward has scored eight goals this season for Remo Stars in the NPFL and has set a 20 goal target for himself this season.
He said: “My best game so far was the game against Heartland. I scored two goals in the first half and I want to see more of that. I am hoping to score maybe 20 goals this season. So far, I have scored eight goals with three assists.
“As a striker, all eyes are one to deliver as always. It gives the other players more reason to capitalize and score goals as well.”
Remo Stars will travel to Ilorin to face Kwara United when the next stanza of the league kicks off next month in a bid to improve on its position on the log.
