Considered one of the most sought after goalkeepers in Europe Andre Onana Onana has been linked to a move away from the Cruyff Arena this summer with multiple European clubs lurking.
There are new signs the 24-year-old Cameroonian goalkeeper is close to the end of his time in Amsterdam.
A recent Instagram post from the ex Barcelona keeper has further fueled speculations on his departure.
“The journey ends with an empty stadium, but full of pride and satisfaction. Thanks for all the love and support”:Onana wrote on Instagram.
The above comments came barely hours after the Dutch football Association announced the current season has ended without a champion despite the the fact that Ajax were leaders of the championship before the outbreak of the CoronaVirus pandemic.
Just like in 2015 Andre is bound to make a big decision with his departure from Ajax looking like a sure event.
A likely departure from Ajax means he has to leave a great European club again because there is new challenge elsewhere.
Onana took his destiny into his hands in 2015 when he ignored Barcelona’s desire to norture him and take him into the first team over time and decided to join Ajax.
Since arriving Amsterdam, Andre has grown into one of the best goalkeepers in the world now aged 24. He has caught the eyes of multiple European giants amongst which is his ex club Barcelona.
The Cameroonian joined the Dutch side in 2015 from Barcelona B and became Ajax’s undisputable first choice keeper in the 2016/2017 season. Since then he has made 122 appearances in all competitions.
This season, he has been involved in 39 games, conceded 37 goals in all competitions with 15 clean sheets from 3500 minutes of football.
Onana arrived Europe through FC Barcelona’s La Masia in 2010 after a spell at the Samuel Eto’o Foundation [Fundesport]. He spent five years in the highly reputed Academy before leaving for Amsterdam where he has spent the last five years.
He has contributed in winning one dutch league title and a dutch domestic cup win for the Cryuiff Arena faithfuls.
Rumors of his departure from Amsterdam have reached unprecedented heights in recent times and his latest comments can be interpreted to mean the end especially as his best team mate as Ajax Hakim Ziyech is also set to leave.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona, and PSG are all reportedly interested in the services of the Nkol Ngok native.
Reports say Ajax found his replacement in 21-year-old Portuguese goalkeeper Luís Manuel Arantes Maximiano on the books of Sporting.
