Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andre Onana has helped Ajax Amsterdam claim their first Eredivisie title since 2014. A 4#1 win over De Graafschap this Wednesday, May 15, 2019, gave Ajax their 34th ever Eredivisie title. Erik Ten Hag and his boys came into the game virtually sure of winning the title, following a similar 4#1 home win over Utrecht over the weekend, and a surprised 1#0 defeat of PSV by AZ, which handed Ajax a three points gab.
Midfielder Lasse Schone curled in a free_kick at the 37 minutes, to give Ajax the lead, but Youssef El Jebli equalized few minutes later, for De Graafschap. Nicolas Tagliafico restored Ajax’s lead before the break, before Dusan Tadic’s brace completed the trick for Ajax.
Onana featured in 33 of Ajax’s 34 games this season, keeping 15 clean sheets. The only Eredivsie game he missed was his side’s 4#4 draw with Heerenveen. In total, Ajax has won 28 games, lost four and drawn two, scoring 119 goals, and conceding 32. Erik Ten Hag’s men finished with 86 points, three more than their rivals PSV.
Frenkie De Jong made his farewell appearance, before completing his move to Barcelona. Ajax there completes a Dutch domestic double. The team had secured the KNVB Beker two weeks ago, with a 4#0 win over Willem II.
