The president of one of the main fans groups of French Ligue 2 side AS Nancy has made a careful evaluation of what turned out to be a disappointing 2019-2020 season for the club.
The French Ligue 2 outfit clearly failed to meet it’s supporters expectations in the just-ended season.
Though they improved from a 17th spot finish last term to an 12th-place finish, they were a greater sense of optimism amongst the fans.
Speaking in an interview over the weekend, David Cosenza blamed the number of injuries and cited Ande Dona Ndoh’s inability to replicate his FC Niort goal scoring ability as one of the reasons for AS Nancy’s poor season.
“We dreamt of a better season, a little before the break, we were 8th. We said why not? Then came repeated injuries, guys who we thought would score goals did not do so. When Ande Dona Ndoh came, we told ourselves he would get at least 12 goals but unfortunately he only scored once. Because of that we had mixed feelings. We know where we came from. We will rebuilt,” the supporters president stated.
Dona arrived the club last summer with a frightening goal scoring reputation after smashing records in his lengthy stay at FC Niort, where he is all-time top scorer.
Unfortunately, for the ex-West Coast United FC man, he scored just one goal in 21 appearances in his debut campaign.
There is no doubt in the fact that Dona’s goal drought affected the club’s season.
Nancy had a roller-coaster season winning just six of their 34 games. Unfortunately, the club couldn’t convert some of their 16 draws to wins which could have helped them climb higher than the 12th spot on the final Classification table.
The Meanja-native has a year left in his contract at the club but with the massive squad overhaul expected this summer, it is unclear whether he will stay to make amends or he will move at 33.
