Invincible Angels defender, Anani Oluwaseun said that lack of sponsorship was responsible for her side relegation from the Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL which is now known as Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL Premiership as players of her club do play some games with an empty stomach.
She disclosed this during an exclusive chat with kick442.com
“The team was relegated to the pro-league and that was because we have no sponsors. It wasn’t so much of a great experience at all and I still feel really bad for the club and myself.
It’s quite long but the main reason was that it’s a private team with no support for the owner of the club.
The team had no enough drive except passion. They were times teammates went for a match with an empty stomach.
The owner of the team really gave it his best as well as teammates. Everyone tried but, It wasn’t enough.
The team lacked sponsorship and it really didn’t motivate the players.
Invincible Angels finished bottom of Group D with four points behind Confluence Queens, Abia Angels, and Ibom Angels. The club’s relegation to the Pro-league, now NWFL Championship was confirmed after losing 4-2 to Dream Stars Ladies on penalties during their relegation playoffs match.
With the relegation of her club, Anani is pessimistic of staying at the club when the women’s league kick-off after the CoronaVirus pandemic.
“I doubt if I would be with Invisible Angels next season.
During the lockdown period, I schedule exercises and workouts basically
and also do few cones work in the compound.

“My advice for the NWFL is that they should really do better in treating female footballers and make our league priority too i.e airing our games live too and also try and support private professional teams because it would go a long way.
I see myself at the top of my career
playing internationally in Europe, preferably England, getting recognized by my national team and representing Nigeria at the next World Cup and Nations Cup. I also see myself winning awards and medals to appreciate my effort and measure how far I have gone.
Also earning a lot too to support my family big time.” She concluded.

Oluwaseun Anani started her career from the grassroots where she played football with boys from her Primary School days before being scouted by Royaltoms International Football Academy, RIFA under the tutelage of Olajide Royal. She has played for Sure Babes before joining her current club, Invincible Babes.
