As the contract extension of Super Eagles coach continues to be a course of worry, the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Melvin Amaju Pinnick has categorically stated that Gernot Rohr must stay in the country based on the next contract proposal that has been sent to him.
“We have told him. He must live in Nigeria. His salary will be in Naira. He must go around the leagues and see how he can nurture the players. If he is able to accept it, we have a deal. There are a lot of coaches that want to coach Nigeria.” Pinnick opined during a televised interview on Monday, April 6, 2020.
This meant that NFF is in the process of domesticating the Franco-German contract as he is currently not living in Nigeria.
“We are going to domesticate Gernot Rohr in Nigeria and domesticate him to our leagues, that’s just it, ”NFF boss Amaju Pinnick once said in a November 2019 televised interview.
”He needs to move around, watch some of the league games. We are not saying take a player from here and bring him to the Super Eagles immediately.”
The NFF President also confirmed that he is in touch with Super Eagles players during this CoronaVirus (COVID-19) induced break.
“I speak with all the players. I speak with the coaches. We try to right many wrongs. Kanu Nwankwo called me yesterday, he said he came to Lagos and is impressed.”
Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr’s current contract was signed in 2018 in the ruins of the team’s sixth (6th) World Cup appearance in Russia. His contract will end by June 2020. The Super Eagles have played 49 games, winning 29, drawing 11 and losing 9 matches under the 66-year-old gaffer.
