President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Melvin Amaju Pinnick has opened up on the vacant coaching position of Nigeria Women’s National Team (Super Falcons). He said the Federation is in the process of appointing a world-class coach for Super Falcons before the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. He disclosed this in an interview on Channels Television, monitored by kick442.com
“We ought to have appointed a new coach for Super Falcons, but it is out of our hands now. We contacted PWC as a consultant to advertise and get us a world-class coach. They were in the process of doing that before this COVID-19 pandemic erupted because we have given them a deadline that we want to appoint a coach before the end of April so that the coach can start work immediately. The good news is that we have a lot of world-class coaches that are ready to take up Super Falcons job. If I mention their names, you will be shocked, but I don’t want to disclose their identity. We are going to give Nigeria the best coach.”
Pinnick also sheds light on the controversy attached to Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr’s new contract.
“We always have a very wonderful relationship with Rohr. Yesterday, we were on the phone for about 45 minutes. We talk every day and I don’t have any issues with him or against him. We just have to include those provisions in his contract. The process is ongoing. Two days ago, it was sent to our external solicitor that has a bias for sports and football laws, then it will come back to NFF before we send the contract to Rohr. I believe within that 10 days (this is the seventh day), he will get his contract terms and he will respond. The truth is that Rohr has done a lot for Nigeria as a coach, no doubt, but without the support of the NFF, he would not have been able to achieve on-third of what he has achieved and that is the truth. We work in harmony with our cordial relationship. I must always protect the sovereignty of this country and the interest of Nigeria just like the Nigerian government. This is the same thing that we are going to do at NFF. We don’t just take personal decisions. That is why it is going through a lot of processes because we don’t want to make mistakes and even if we will make mistakes, we want it to be minimal. Rohr’s contract expires in June, this is April. If he looks at his terms and he is okay with it, then we will talk about it (we talk every time).” He concluded.
Super Falcons are without a coach after Thomas Dennerby left the country to take up the job of India Under 17 ladies.
Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr contract will expire in June, 2020, and NFF is including some new provisions in his contract which include staying in Nigeria and monitoring the league in order to improve the players in the league.
