The head coach of Togolese side Unisport of Sokode has told kick442.com that his side has improved from the side that suffered a two-nil defeat at home to Cotonsport of Garoua last weekend in the 2020-2021 CAF Confederation cup first-leg preliminary round game in Lome.
Speaking just before his team’s recognizance session at the Roumde Adja Stadium in Garoua ahead of the game, the gaffer hinted the game could be more of a close contest.
“There has been improvement in our preparations from after the defeat. Don’t be surprised, tomorrow we are going to give Cotonsport a good run for their money,” coach Alhaji Mumuni Sokpari revealed.
The former Wa All Stars of Ghana coach only joined Unisport of Sokode two weeks ago as part of the process of preparing for a good performance in the 2020-2021 CAF Confederation and domestic competitions.
Unfortunately, he was restricted to watch last week’s two-nil defeat to Cotonsport from the stands as he battles with language and administrative issues.
The same administrative and other issues have put some of his players out of this Sunday’s game as he revealed.
“Sometimes it is due to injuries, sometimes it is due to internal problems. The first time there were some few hitches, that’s why we couldn’t get a squad of 18, So it is today. There’s no need traveling with an injured player.”
Unisport are in Cameroon for the second leg game with 17 players two of which are goalkeepers.
Oyafade, a key player with the squad didn’t travel to Cameroon. Per the coach the former Union Sportive of Douala man is nursing an injury and a handful of key players are also missing but they will make do with the players available.
Unisport enter the fixture with a two-goal deficit needing to win by more than two goals to pick a ticket to the next round of the competition.
Cotonsport vs. Unisport Sokode: December 6th. 15:00 CAT/2:00 GMT. Stade Roumde Adja, Garoua.
But, before we look ahead to this weekend’s game, let’s take a quick trip back to Lome last week when Cotonsport edged Unisport to win three points.
