The Algerian Football is working on the possibility of camping in Equatorial Guinea in preparations for this Month’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
This time around, the Desert Foxes will not camp at the usual national technical center as they believe Malabo will provide a better idea of the conditions in Douala-Cameroon.
The World Football governing body-FIFA has revealed the play-offs between the African football heavyweights will be played on March 25 and 29 in Douala and Bilda respectively.
According to information on the FIFA website, both games will be played within an interval of three days, and the winner on aggregate will qualify for the global showpiece.
It is a remake of the one of the fixtures of the qualifier for the 2018 tournament which Cameroon won 2-0 at home and played a draw in Blida.
According our sources the Cameroon Football federation, FECAFOOT, has opted for the 60 000 capacity jewel in the outskirt of Cameroon’s millionaire city – Douala as host of one of Africa’s most anticipated football contest in the final twist before Qatar 2022.
Algeria were at the 2018 FIFA World Cup but struggled at Japoma during the just-ended AFCON tournament and will be hoping to improve on their form in Japoma where they have not won in three outings, before the return game at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida four days later.
The desert Foxes are seeking a fifth qualification to the FIFA World Cup, in 2022 while an aggregate win for Cameroon will take them through to the eighth FIFA World Cup tournament, in Qatar.
The move is camp in Guinea is one of many efforts recently made to improve Algeria’s chances in the tie. We understand an Algerian delegation has been in Cameroon this week to study the environment.
