28 lionesses have been summoned by Head Coach Alain Djeumfa as Cameroon looks to secure a spot at the 2021 Olympic Game. The Lionesses are expected to camp from January 6 to 23 in Yaounde.
The inter-continental playoff for the 2021 edition of the Tokyo Olympic qualifiers in the women’s category is expected to take place in February 2021.
Majority of the players are locally based with four players coming from Europe. Players from Louves Minproff make up the majority of the call ups with 7 players. This is followed by 4 players from Awa Football Girls.
The indomitable Lionesses are expected to face La Roja Feminina of Chile on Thursday February 18, 2021 for the first leg of the qualifier. Cameroon will then travel to Chile for the return leg on February 24, 2021.
The encounter between Cameroon and Chile was initially to take place in April last year but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cameroon finished as runners-up in the Africa zone following their 4-4 away defeat against Zambia. For Chile, they also finished as runners-up
This will be the first battle between Cameroon against Chile in a FIFA organized encounter between the two nations. Cameroon will hope to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games after participating at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Chile on the other hand will hope to get its first participation in the Games.
