Egyptian giants Al Ahly of Cairo are set to offer a new deal to 45-year-old Swiss coach René Weiler.
The former FC Nürnberg gaffer arrived the club in July last year and has had an impressive stay with the Red Devils.
Weiler has taken charge of 31 games, recording 24 victories, five draws and just two defeats. He has guided the club to the CAF Champions League semi final and the top of the Egyptian premier league without a defeat in the domestic league.
His deputy David Sesa has revealed in a recent outing on Al Ahly TV that his boss has met and discussed terms of a deal with president Mahmoud Al-Khatib.
“Weiler spoke with the President, Mahmoud Al-Khatib. They discussed about contract renewal and both parties have reached an agreement in principle”
“Working at Al Ahly is an honour for all members of Weiler’s technical staff.”
“But in the end, the decision to renew is between El-Khatib and Weiler. They are the ones who will decide,” David Sesa concluded.
The ex Aaurau boss is set to get a new three-year-deal.
Al Ahly have won 16 of their 17 league matches this term. They have a 16 points lead in the 18 clubs domestic championship and look well on course to win their 42nd domestic league title.
They also face Raja Casablanca in the semi finals of this year’s CAF Champions League [A trophy that has surprisingly eluded them since 2013]
The ex Anderlecht boss has already won the Egyptian Super Cup with Ahly but look set to add to his first trophies won since he began management at St Gallen in the 2006/2007 season.
