Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam have identified a possible replacement for in demand Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana Onana.
21-year-old Portuguese goalkeeper Luís Manuel Arantes Maximiano has been identified as Onana’s replacement and negotiations opened according our sources.
The Portugal U-23 international goalkeeper has been a mainstay in Sporting’s team this season. He has featured on 21 occasions in all competitions and is on contract till the summer of 2023 but cost just around three Million Euros.
The 24-year-old old Cameroonian joined the Dutch side in 2016 from Barcelona B and became the club’s undisputable first choice keeper at the club in the 2016/2017 season.
He has been involved in 39 games conceded 37 goals in all competitions with 15 clean sheets with 3500 minutes of football.
Onana arrived Europe through FC Barcelona’s La Masia in 2010 after a spell at the Samuel Eto’o Foundation [Fundesport]. He spent five years in the highly reputed Academy before joining the Reserve team of Ajax in 2016.
He has contributed in bringing one Dutch league title and a Dutch domestic cup win to the Cryuiff Arena.
His departure from Amsterdam has reached unprecedented heights in the last six weeks with Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona and even PSG all reported to be interested in the Nkol Ngok native.
Goalkeepers Kjell Scherpen, Bruno Varela, Dominik Kotarski and Issam El Maach will be available if Onana leaves, but tradition demands a club that gives away their first choice keeper must get another keeper. This is surely why Ajax is in the shop for a keeper.
