The list of clubs vying for the services of 28-year-old Algerian defender Aïssa Mandi keeps growing.
Barcelona are new candidates in the race to sign the Real Betis defender, kick442.com can report.
Multiple media in Spain are currently reporting that Barcelona has identified the Athletico Madrid target as a player fitting to replace their want-away defender Franco-Cameroonian defender, Samuel Umtiti.
Barca are open to a move away from Camp Nou for Umtiti, and in anticipation they are courting the €30 Million rated Algerian who is also on New Castle United’s scale of preference.
In April, Real Betis tagged €30 Million release price on the 28-year-old defender whose contract at the club runs out next summer.
Aïssa moved to the Estadio Benito Villamarín in 2016 from Reims on a five-year-deal which he has repeatedly refused to extend.
Mandi has featured in 24 of his club’s games this campaign.
The Châlons-en-Champagne-native has established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in the La Liga.
Mandi has made over 100 appearances in the last four years for Real Betis.
Athletico Madrid, New Castle United, Olympique Lyonnais and now Barcelona are in the race.
The tough-tackling defender who also operates as a right-back has won 49 caps for the Desert Foxes of Algeria.
He was a part of the country’s team that conquered the continent and claimed the AFCON crown in Egypt a year ago.
