35-year-old veteran Egyptian defender Ahmed Fathi Abdelmonem Ahmed Ibrahim has joined Egyptian side Pyramids SC from Al Ahly on a free transfer.
Egyptian media say his departure was provoked by lack of game time as the Ahly legend and Egyptian national team captain has made only 17 appearances in the current season. Sources Ahly officials offered him a new contract but he turn down the deal to stay with the reds.
“Pyramids announces the signing of Egypt national team captain Ahmed Fathi on a free transfer” Pyramids issued the statement in Twitter on Saturday.

The Banha native has agreed a one-year-deal and joins as a free agent after this season.
The new move makes him the third club legend to leave Al Ahly as Sherif Ekramy and Hossam Ashour have also announced their departure after the current campaign.
The versatile midfielder who can also occasionally played in the right back role began his career in 2000 with Ismaily SC but enjoyed the best phase of football at Al Ahly where he made 338 appearances, scored 24 goals and made 61 assists to help the club win 10 league titles plus three CAF Champions League titles.
Pyramids SC becomes his third Egyptian club and most likely the last for the Ex Hull City and Sheffield United man.
Fathi has made 134 appearances for the Egyptian national team and scored three goals. His capture brings huge experience to a very ambitious Pyramids team.
He will be registered at the end of the current campaign.
