D’Tigers of Nigeria maintained their perfect record at the 2021 Afrobasket qualifiers at Kigali, Rwanda beating Mali on Saturday to end the first round of the qualifiers.
The Nigerian male team had previously defeated South Sudan in their first game and conquered host, Rwanda in the second and emerging victorious in their third which turned out to be a bit tough compared to other games.
Coincidentally, all three games were won by 20 points and over Game 1 (20), Game 2 (21), Game 3 (23).
They take control of Group D and will continue their next round of qualifiers in February next year.
South Sudan earned their second win in Group D, while the hosts end the qualifiers campaign winless after losing all their three games against Mali, Nigeria and South Sudan. The natch ended 55-67.
In group A, Tunisia closed out their last game of the tournament with a massive win over Central African Republic leaving them undefeated in the FIBA Afrobasket 2021 Qualifiers.
It was surely the most intensive game of the competition. Both teams played aggressive either on defense and offense. But the playmaking style of Tunisia at the 2nd half pushed them to the victory. Final score, 80-63 over a good team of CAR.
In another group A tie, after a tight start to the game, DR Congo shifted gears and cruised to their second victory of the tournament.
The Leopards began with a slow start, feeling the pressure of Madagascar, but used their speed in transition at the second half to win 82-64.
The Captain of the DR. Congo team, Ruphin Kayembe, led his team to an astounding victory with an impressive performance earning him Player of the Game.
Uganda Silverbacks in group E, picked their second win at the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers winning 101-98 against Cape Verde and now have one foot at the final tournament.
In the same group, Egypt also made it three out of three after beating Morocco in Sunday’s game.
