It was a shocker on Tuesday night as defending champions Mali defeated host, Egypt in the semi finals of the Afrobasket U18 Championship at Cairo Stadium.
Mali who had lost all it matches prior this time, pulled the chest out of the fire to overcome high flying young Pharaohs who haven’t lost so far 70-79 to reach the final.
In an end to end situation, the host was in front in the early stages winning by a slim margin 17-16. But Tamandjan dit Youba Konate of Mali scored 14 points, 1 rebound and 3 assists to lift Mali to a 42 to 28 half time win.
Egypt regained it composure as the second half started to close the gap on Mali, but the Malians stuck to their guns to ensure victory at the end.
