The 16th edition of the African Sambo Championship, that ran from July 16-18 has ended in Yaounde, with team Cameroon emerging overall best with 16 medals out of which are eight in gold.
16 countries participated in the African Sambo Jamboree, both in the women’s and men’s categories respectively.
Team Cameroon won three gold medals in the men’s categories via Frank Benoit Meyong in the 64kilograms, Frank Junior Molakye for the 76 kilograms and Gerard Michel Vanlier Ndam in the 98 kilograms.
Celestin Mbida Zanga, William Celestin Fokam earned two gold medals each in the 58kilograms and 71 kilograms in the men’s category.
While Cameroon tops the medals table, on the second position comes Morocco with a gold medal in the 88kilograms from Mustapha Mouknaj and Sanaa Mandar in the women’s under 65kilograms.
Meanwhile Egyptian born Khaled Zaki won the sambo fight title.
In the 2019 African Sambo Championship held in Casablanca, Morocco,the Cameroon Sambo lions earned five gold medals, two silver and one bronze through the brilliance of Seidou Njimoluh, Raoul Ndjima Ehowa,Joseph Emmmilliene Esombe Tiako,Maxwell Djantou, William Celestin, Feugang Kitchen, Benoit Oscar Asso’o Emane and Michael Vanlier Ndam.
