Senegalese midfielder Guirane N’Daw who currently practices his art at French non-league side AS Algrange has touched on the sensitive issue of age twisting on the African continent via IGFM.
The central midfielder whose carrier could be likened to that of a journey man having played for twelve football clubs made a disturbing revelation as regards African players and age cheating.
The 36-year-old or at least N’Daw’s twisted age as it is referred to on the African continent, only got his long serving contract with French side Sochaux from 2002-2008 after having gone through the routine of age reduction.
On IGFM, the midfielder said: ” Just like most Senegalese I reduced my age to play professional football. African players players cannot go professional without twisting their ages. It’s the reality weather we like it or not. In Senegal, 99 percent of the players have reduced their ages.”
Age cheating has always been a concern in football in general, especially on the African continent. Despite desperate attempts to eradicate the malpractice with innovations like the MRI scan, good players like Guirane N’Daw whose development came late, have no choice but to cheat so as to attract foreign clubs with ‘Cinderella’ ages and to have a longer time of service.
