The Moroccan players have promised a robust and electrifying game in the days ahead, as they await to know their upcoming opponents after after progressing to the last eight of the African Nations Cup going on in Cameroon.
Addressing the media after Tuesday’s game, the Moroccan midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat, talked about the Atlas Lion’s play style and how they envisage to take on their next opponents yet to be known.
“We had a very nice Malawian side as opponents. They really succeeded in giving us a tough time at the beginning of the encounter.Thank God we remain concentrated and respected the Coach’s prescriptions, that saw us pick the three point of the day”.
“Playing at this stage of the competition was really a delicate one for us, reason being that it is he who wins, that gets the pass for the next stage. So winning was an obligation for us.”
“We will continue playing as a team and hopefully get a ticket for the grand finale. The Malawian goal for us was a fantastic one.”
“For the next game, we will remain focused and tactful in scoring more goals. For it has been noticed that we create many scoring chances but concretize a lesser number of these opportunities”.
The Flames had taken a seven minutes lead at the first half when Gabadinho Mhango had opened score from a 45 metres stunning shot to beat the Moroccan goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou.
Then came En-Nesyri’s leaped above the Malawian defenders before half-time to beat Flames goalkeeper, Charles Thom to bring both sides on a 1-1 all squared.
The boys of coach Vahid Halilhodzic continued pressing upon the resumption of round two, with the Flames managing to contain a side that showed lot of technical play at the Yaounde Ommisport arena.
Achraf Hakimi with 20 minutes left to end time, struck a 30 metres well curled free kick into the nets of the Malawian goalkeeper to earn the final win.
Malawia featured in their first ever Nations Cup stage game and succeeded in giving Morocco tough times after qualifying as best losers in Group B.
