Super Eagles ended their AFCON 2019 Qualifier with a 3-1 win over the Pirates of Seychelles at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba yesterday to finish top of the group with 13 points.
However despite the goal margin some quarters believe the team have not done enough to win convincingly against a low rated opponent.
Some of the fans who monitored the game sent their reactions via WhatsApp.
Sadiq Musa from Kaduna is of the opinion that little significance was attached to the game by the players because Nigeria have already secured the AFCON slot.
“The match is a dead rubber tie and you don’t expect the players to be at their best. Injury scare on an obviously bad pitch also contributed to the drab nature of the game.”
Abass from Ikeja, Lagos holds a contrary view to Sadiq stating that Gernot Rohr needs to have a rethink regarding some decision he made especially the goalkeeping department.
“We don’t have a goalkeeper. Francis Uzoho is the worst player on the pitch yesterday and that Shehu Abdullahi the player is not good enough”
Asemota Samuel from Lagos attributed the poor showing by the players to the nature of the pitch.
“The pitch was too tight. The players had no space for pacy players like Ahmed Musa and Henry Onyekuru to run”
Mike from Makurdi, Benue State:
There is little lapses on the part of the players but the coach with vast experience I hope he will look into the loop holes. Also we need good keeper even in our domestic league we have them Gernot Rohr should look into it too.”
