The Chadian National Football team nicknamed the Sao is currently in Yaounde for a preparations camp ahead of their AFCON 2023 preliminary tie against the Scorpions of The Gambia.
The Chadian delegation touchdown Cameroon on Sunday March 13 on board a chartered flight with that brought a majority of the 30 players selected plus all Executive Committee members of the federation’s normalization committee.
Though a handful the abroad base players are yet to join the camp, the troops of coach Mahamat Allamine Abakar continue to chain training sessions.
The Sao with six players from the Cameroon Elite One championship confront Cameroon’s vice champions APEJES of Mfou in a training game on Wednesday,March 16 at the Military Stadium and YOSA three days later.
Officials of the Chadian Federation who were initially targeting Douala as host of the game have made a decision to play at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.
Though the Gambia had a good run 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon, they are amongst the twelve least ranked countries in Africa, according to FIFA.

They will therefore begin their quest of coming through for the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, from the preliminary stage beginning away to Chad in Douala.
The draw twelve nations were made last February in Douala-Cameroon and the Scorpions who are ranked number 138th in the world will be up against Chad who are positioned number 180th.
In the other 2023 AFCON preliminary stage qualifiers, Sao Tome will play against Mauritius, Djibouti will face South Sudan.
While Lesotho and Seychelles, Eritrea and Botswana and then Somalia and Eswatini also have dates.
The above games will be played between March 21 and 29, 2022 and the six victorious teams will wait for the final group stage draw.
