Botswana have reached the qualifier round for the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations tournament following the withdrawal of their preliminary round opponents – Eritrea.
Sources in Eritrea have told kick442.com that the Red Sea Boys will not be going to camp to prepare the first round preliminary games against the Zebras of Botswana.
Though reasons are yet to be advanced about the move, this portal understands the senior men’s team of Eritrea will suffer the same fate their Under-17 girls team faced with their second round World cup qualifier against Cameroon.
Eritrea versus Botswana scheduled on March 21 and the reversed fixture eight days later is now off.
Botswana progress to the group qualifier round of the tournament scheduled in Ivory Coast in June 2023.
other 2023 AFCON preliminary stage qualifiers, Sao Tome will play against Mauritius, Djibouti will face South Sudan.
While Lesotho and Seychelles and Somalia and Eswatini also have dates.
The games will be played between March 21 and 29, 2022 and the six victorious teams will wait for the final group stage draw.
