The Senior mens National team of Gabon nicknamed “The Panthers”, are stucked in Barcelona Spain, less than 24 hours to their 23 AFCON qualifiers game against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
DR Congo is supposed the host Gabon in Kinshasa on Saturday, in one of Group I games, but according to a communiqué from the media, Communication and marketing department of the Gabonese National team, the Panthers are still in the Spanish city of Barcelona, with Saturday’s game now looking uncertain.
“Following a technical problem from the plane transporting the Gabonese National team from Paris, the Panthers are still in Barcelona,” read part of the communiqué.
“Since this morning (Friday), the company has being trying to find an alternative solution to permit the national team to travel to Kinshasa. But unfortunately it is still facing authorisation problems,” the communiqué added.
Faced with this situation, the Gabonese football Federation FEGAFOOT, has addressed a correspondent to the Confederation of African Football CAF, asking for the game to be pushed 24 hours forward.
But according to CAF roles, such a demand needed the approval of the Congolese football Federation. The Congolese Football Federation FECOFA, as per the communiqué from the media, Communication and marketing department of the Gabonese Football Federation, has unfortunately rejected the demand to pushed the game 24 hours forward, which was addressed to them by the Department of Competitions of CAF.
Gabon reached the eighth final of the just ended 2021 TotalEnergies AFCON in Cameroon, where they were eliminated by Burkina Faso.
The Panthers of Gabon are lodged in Group I of the qualifiers, alongside DR Congo, Mauritania and Sudan.
