Cameroon Indomitable Lions forward, Clinton Njie says he and his teammates are aware of the importance of emerging champions of the Africa Cup of Nations competition and will be working endlessly hard to ensure they attain their goals of lifting the trophy during the forthcoming tournament in Cameroon.
In an interview with the Communication Unit of the Cameroon Football Federation on Thursday December 29, the Dynamo of Moscow attacker declared he and his teammates will be giving their all and will also work towards capitalizing on home advantage to bag home the coveted trophy.
“It’s a big competition for us and we are having in our hearts to give our best. We know what it means to win this competition. We are playing home, we have our fans and we know how important the 12th man is in football.” The former Tottenham Hotspur forward partly said.
“All we need to do now is to work with our coaches. We have some games to prepare the opening game that is just a week and some days away. So we are here to work very hard to make sure everything goes on well. I think it’s time for us to work together and achieve our goals.” The 2017 AFCON winner added.
The 28-year-old attacker who will be looking forward to feature for Cameroon for the first time in over a year, also expressed joy returning to the Indomitable Lion’s then.
“It’s always a pleasure to come back to the team. I feel very good. I think my teammates know what I’m capable of doing. I also appreciate their attitude towards me when I was not around.
We were always in contact and it’s important to feel in the group when you are not around and that has always been the case with me and now I’m back here to help the team and to give my best for the team so we can achieve our goals.” The ex-Marseille forward concluded while also expressing gratitude for the considerate and kind treatment received from his teammates while absent from the Indomitable Lions’ then.
Clinton Njie who will be in his 4th appearance in the final phase of the Africa Cup of Nations, is currently training alongside a fraction of the 28 Cameroonian players selected to represent the country during the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
The team is holding training sessions at its temporal base at the Mundi Multipurpose Complex in Nsimalen in the outskirt of Yaounde.
Five time African champions, Cameroon will be playing in Group A of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Burkina Faso, Cape Verde Islands and Ethiopia at the Yaounde Olembe Stadium when the event take place from January 9 to February 6, 2022.
