Cameroon Indomitable Lions 2017 AFCON winning defender, Nicolas Nkoulou will be unavailable for possible call-up to represent the team during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon next year.
The 33-year-old former Torino defender will not be available due to injury complications.
According to a statement released by Nkoulou’s club Watford FC on Tuesday November 30, the defender picked up an injury while playing against Manchester United in the Hornets’ 4-1 home win over the Red Devils during match day 12 of the English top flight championship, the English Premier League.
“Nicolas Nkoulou will be sidelined until into the New Year after picking up a hamstring injury towards the end of the Manchester United match.” The club wrote on its official website ahead of its EPL match against Chelsea.
The former Lions captain who joined Watford shortly at the start of the 2021/2022 season from Italian Serie A side, Torino, has been in good form with the Hornets led by Head Coach Claudio Raneiri.

A form that has led to a fraction of Cameroonians suggesting his call-back to the national team in a bid to strengthen the Indomitable Lion’s defensive compartment for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
But the latest injury woe suggests Nicolas Nkoulou’s possible return to the national team is out of reach.

Nkoulou’s over one month injury announced by the club puts the time frame beyond limit for his possible return to the team with the AFCON scheduled to run from January 9 to February 6, 2022.
The defended announced his retirement from Cameroon senior men’s national football team shortly after his glorious 2017 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Gabon with the Indomitable Lions.
