Mhango’s double gives Malawi their first Nation’s Cup win, since 2010, leaving Zimbabwe bottom of Group B going into the final round of matches.
Ishmael Wadi put Zimbabwe ahead in the first half, but Mhango levelled just before the break and then added the second after the 58 minutes as he took advantage of some hesitant defending and supplied a poacher’s finish.
Marini and boys are now on three points, from two games and are third of the group behind Guinea and Senegal, who have four points each.
In their next game slated for Tuesday, the Flames of Malawi will lock horns against Senegal. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe takes on Guinea.
