African players from English Premier League side, Liverpool FC, competing in the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament have won four Man of the Match awards in the ongoing event in Cameroon barely a week into the African soccer jamboree.
Mohamed Salah, Naby Keita and Sadio Mane have won at least a Man of the Match award each since the start of the competition on Sunday January 9, 2020.
Guinea Conakry midfielder, Naby Keita is leading the chart after backing two Man of the Match awards in two games played in the tournament.
The Syli Nationals skipper was voted MVP in Guinea’s first two group B games. He received the distinction after Guinea Conakry’s 1 nil win against Malawi in the second Group B game of the pool based at the Bafoussam Omnisport Stadium.
The energetic and charismatic Syli Nationals pace-setter also got the honor after Guinea Conakry’s goalless draw against the Terenga Lions of Senegal in their second group game on Friday January 14 still at the Bafoussam Omnisport Stadium.
Naby Keita’s Liverpool FC teammate, Sadio Mane follows suit with a Man of the Man award received after the former Southampton FC forward’s spirited display against the Warriors of Zimbabwe last Monday January 10 in Senegal’s AFCON 2021 opener.
Sadio Mane scored the winner for the Senegalese from the penalty spot at the 5th minute of added time to hand the 2019 runner up a much needed win.
Mohamed Salah took the Man of the Match record for Liverpool FC stars to four on Saturday January 15.
He received the distinction after his second half goal inspired record seven time AFCON winners, Egypt to their first Group D victory in the 2021 AFCON as the Pharaohs humbled the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau 1 nil at the Roumde Adjia Stadium to take second spot in the group led by the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane have jointly scored over 20 goals for English side, Liverpool FC this season.
The pair who alongside their Guinea teammate, Naby Keita, have won the English Premier League and UEFA Champions League title for the Merseyside club, are all looking forward to clinch silver wear for their respective nations at the end of the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations competition currently taking place in Cameroon.
