When the evening hours of Sunday January 16, 2022 comes knocking, the City of Douala, Littoral region of Cameroon will be vibrating to the tune of football with some highly contested battles set to go underway at the Japoma Sports Complex.
The Elephants of Ivory Coast will take on the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone while the Desert Foxes of Alegria will lock horns with the Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea, marking the second round of play for group E, in the ongoing 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations 2021.
IVORY COAST # SIERRA LEONE
This is going to be the most interesting battle of the day, watching the Elephants of Ivory Coast taking on the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone 17:00. Both teams thrilled fans at the Japoma stadium during the first round, clearing off wrinkles on fan’s faces, giving them a new impetus to show up for other games.
After 26 years of absence from the men’s flagship tournament in Africa, the Leone Stars lowered defending champions Algeria’s boner, playing a virgin tie to secure a point. Meanwhile the Ivorians made things very complicated for Equatorial Guinea, seizing all three points in thanks to captain Max Alain Gradel’s lone goal.
All eyes this time will be focused on both teams as Ivory Coast shall be battling to clinch a win and book an eighth final ticket while Sierra Leone shall be struggling for a win and eventually by pass the group stage for the first time in the country’s history in the AFCON.
25-year-old Sierra Leonean keeper Mohamed Kamara with his exceptional performance stopping all Algerian moves for a goal, which enabled him win the Man Of The Match title will be the center of attraction for Sierra Leone.
ALGERIA # EQUATORIAL GUINEA
Following a virgin tie against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, the Desery Foxes of Algeria will welcome Equatorial Guinea in one of the second round of Group E battles.
Algeria coming in as defending champions of Africa did not have a 100% successful game against Sierra Leone and so will have to step up their game for a first three point if they want to stay longer in Cameroon.
Equatorial Guinea currently rocking the bottom place in group will have a hard nut to crack taking on African gianst Algeria. They remain the only team yet to taste a point in Group E.
