In the much talked about game of the two most successful teams of Africa, considered a final before the final, the Pharoahs of Egypt could possibly face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the semi-final clash without their first and second goalkeepers, a situation where many now capitalises on the fact that victory is for Lions.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, host nation of the 2021 African Cup of Nations, are expected to face the Pharoahs of Egypt at 8:00pm in the most beautiful stadium in the country, the 60,000 Olembe Sports Complex, Thursday February 3, 2022, counting for the second Semi-final battle of the AFCON.
Cameroonians are keeping their fingers crossed hoping the Egyptian goalpost will be in the hands of inexperienced youth international stopper Mohamed Sobhi, after first choice Mohamed El-Shenawy playing for Al Ahly SC and second choice, 33-year-old Zamalek stopper Mohammed Abou-Gabal picked up injuries.
Mohamed El-Shenawy first choice goalkeeper for the Egyptian National team has been out after suffering a hamstring strain. Mohammed Abou-Gabal second choice has been in-between the sticks for Egypt helping the team qualify for the Semifinals with some brilliant saves. During the quarter-final game against Morocco, with Gabaski at the goalpost, he was substituted for Mohamed Sobhi for a muscle cramp after falling down twice and refused to be changed.
Though Abou-Gabal has declared he is fit for the game against Cameroon “I only had a minor muscle cramp and I am ready to play, God willing, in the semi finals on Thursday against Cameroon,” his statement still shows some doubts and he may not be available.
With Mohamed El-Shenawy first choice out, Mohammed Abou-Gabal possibly out, the Indomitable Lions will have an upper advantage striking and scoring more goals as they continue their quest for a sixth AFCON Title.
Both sides will look horns Thursday 3 February 2022, at Olembe Stadium, Egypt is hoping to get an eighth title while Cameroon is going in the the sixth title.
