Three players of Burkina Faso AFCON 2021 squad have tested positive of the novel Coronavirus.
The Stallions’ Deputy Captain and RS Berkane defender Issouf Dayo and Horoya AC midfielder Dramane Nikiema returned positive Covid-19 results after the team’s test conducted on Tuesday January 4, shortly before the outfit’s departure for Cameroon.
The Burkinabes 19-year-old goalkeeper, Killian Nikiema also returned positive result after the test.
Issouf Dayo who scored Burkina Faso’s Group A equalizer against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon during the 2017 AFCON in Gabon have been put on isolation with the two other players.
The three will remain in Abu Dhabi in the United Arabs Emirates where they will get monitored before jetting to Cameroon in the days ahead.
The three will be the lone absentee in the 28-man Stallions AFCON 2021 squad that will arrive Cameroon on Tuesday night with Team Captain Bertrand Traore of Aston Villa expected to join the rest of the team in Yaounde later in the day.
Burkina Faso will jet into Cameroon after over a week stay in the UAE where the team held two friendlies against AFCON bound Mauritania and Gabon.
The Stallions will be competing in Group A of the forthcoming soccer showpiece and will face host Cameroon, 1962 winners Ethiopia and the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde Islands.
The 2013 runners up will clash with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the tournament opener on January 9, 2022 at the Yaounde Olembe Stadium.
