Two brothers of Cameroonian origin will feature for the Atlas Lions of Morocco during the forthcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.
The pair, Samy Mmaee and Ryan Mmaee jetted into the Cameroon with the Moroccan senior men’s national football team on Monday January 3, 2022 after the Atlas Lions rounded off camping in Abu Dhabi in the United Arabs Emirates.
The two brothers were born in Belgium to a Moroccan mother and a Cameroonian father.
Defender Sammy Mmaee aged 25 years old and brother Ryan Mmaee both represented Belgium at the youth levels including at the Under 19 and Under 21 categories and have per their birth rights and parents origin, had the eligibility to represent either Cameroon, Belgium or Morocco at the senior level.
The two who both play professional football for Budapest based Hungary side Ferencvaros, in 2020, chose the Atlas Lions of Morocco over the Indomitable Lions and Belgium and was recently named in Morocco’s squad for the upcoming 2021 AFCON in Cameroon where the two will be making their debut in the final phase of a major competition.
Sensational forward, Ryan Mmaee who has scored over 8 goals for Ferencvaros in 14 appearances this season, will be looking forward to replicate his form for the Atlas Lions during the upcoming event having also scored in his last two appearances for Morocco and Sudan.
Ryan’s defender elder brother, Sammy Mmaee will also be expected to excel in his country of origin, Cameroon when 1976 African champions Morocco compete in Pool C of the upcoming 2021 AFCON alongside Ghana, Gabon and Comoros Islands at the Yaounde Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium as the North Africans eye a second crown in the Africa’s premier football competition.
