Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions will be facing the Scorpions of Gambia in the first quarter final battle of the 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations 2021. The fierce battle shall take place in the 50,000 capacity Japoma Sports Complex, Saturday January 28, 2022, as both sides clash for a lone semi final battle.
Ahead of the game, considering The Scorpions’ pushful spirit and performance from group stage through the round of 16, they have shown an incredible style in football, picking up three victories and a draw. To António Conceicao it will be a difficult game for the Lions and so will have to make use of offensive skills.
“Everything has been positive so far and our objectives have bee positive. We know so well that we are going to face difficulties with the Gambia. We are just trying to understand our opponents, We know they are going to make things very difficult for us but we are going to do our best. We have divice some strategies already.”
“We have a team that is based on offensive football. We are good when it comes to striking and we don’t joke with them. We know that Gambia is going to attack us, and we know we have a problem with the defence but we have been working hard to figure out the problem.” António Conceicao explained.
Quizzed on the state of the turf which made rounds on social media of it’s poor state and Haven played all their games on the fine turf of the Olembe Stadium, the Portuguese trainer says there is no time for silly excuses, the team is rather solution oriented.
“For the state of the field we will visit it, we haven’t had time to examine the pitch. We have a good memory here last time we won against Ivory Coast. Our style of game is conserving the ball and find a good timing before striking. We don’t find silly excuses, we go for solutions, and despite the state of the field we will find solutions.”
It is news Vincent Aboubakar is leading the scoring chat of AFCON 2021 with six goals, when asked of a substituted should he is absence Coach Antonio Conceicao says “Vincent is a good player, we actually have the two best scorers but this is as a result of team work. If the other players did not create the opportunities for the strikers, the attackers won’t be able to score so it’s a matter of collective effort.”
As of now, “Our concern is that the spirit of the Lions is very positive. Its been 30 days we have been together, the spirit is very positive, I can say that irrespective of the result that we have lived as a family with respect and this is the greatest trophy I can have as a coach. We just do our job we are trying to make analysis and to get information about our opponent and to devise some strategies.”
These he explained in a pre-match press conference held Friday January 28, 2022, ahead of Cameroon’s quater final game against Gambia.
